Execution on It's Own Isn't Enough

Is your purpose clear to you? How about what must be achieved to realize your “why”? Does your strategy effectively bridge your higher purpose and objectives with your everyday actions?

Execution on It's Own Isn't Enough

Is your purpose clear to you? How about what must be achieved to realize your “why”? Does your strategy effectively bridge your higher purpose and objectives with your everyday actions?

“Rowing harder doesn't help if the boat is headed in the wrong direction.”

– Kenichi Ohmae (1943 – )

[1] When we find ourselves struggling along and unhappy in Life, we find ourselves in one of three scenarios:

  1. All areas of our enterprise are functional - that is, all areas are progressing externally and generating some level of positive well-being internally however, we’ve misunderstood what areas mean the most to us and as a result, we’re overinvesting in lower meaning areas at the expense of higher meaning areas. In this scenario, we are executing on a strategy but unfortunately, it’s the wrong strategy to maximize our bottom-line well-being.
  2. Not all areas of our enterprise are functional – some areas are progressing externally and generating some level of positive well-being internally while others are offsetting those gains via external regress and some form of internal Pain. In this scenario, we’re only selectively executing and we’re compromising our overall well-being as a result.
  3. Some combination of #1 and #2. In other words, we’re unclear about our priorities AND we’re struggling to execute.

[2] When we find ourselves struggling along and unhappy in Life, we’ll find Lower & Less leading our charge.  We’ll find weakness in the connective tissue between our priorities, our strategy, and our execution efforts.  When pre-action fails to properly inform action, the results we create are random, unpredictable, and often times off the mark.

[3] For Highest & Best, optimizing our time and effort is paramount to Maximizing our Potential and Honoring our Life to the greatest extent that we’re able.

For Highest & Best, connecting Life enterprise priorities to monthly Strategic Plans is normal course command protocol.

For Highest & Best, there is no path to creating, sustaining, and optimizing well-being – externally and/or internally – without meaning driven Strategic Plans that properly inform tactical execution efforts.
